TREMA! Festival de Teatro de Grupo do Recife
Between April 8 and 12, Recife hosted the 3rd edition of Trema! – Recife Group Theatre Festival. The event featured five groups engaged in ongoing research into language in the performing arts.
Faced with the financial difficulties of organizing another edition, the festival adopted “Occupy and Resist” as its main motto, paying a fitting tribute to the Ocupe Estelita movement, while also reflecting on the need for theatre itself to occupy and resist within the city of Recife.
We were living through dark times, when theatre was not receiving the care and attention it deserved. Public administration was chaotic. Artists were disrespected every day. All that remained for us was to resist and increasingly occupy the space that was rightfully ours.
Alongside the festival, Trema! Theatre Platform was launched, aiming to bring together initiatives related to group theatre throughout the country, across its different forms of practice: publishing, documentation, occupation of spaces, and production. That same year, the platform published six editions of Trema – Group Theatre Magazine, a pioneering initiative in the state supported by Funcultura.
This edition was dedicated to the Ocupe Estelita movement and to all other movements of resistance advocating for a better and fairer city.
CHANGE THE LANGUAGE, CHANGE THE TEXT, CHANGE THE SCENE. TREMBLE!
